On Technical Difficulties

Hello Interwebs! So....this weekend was SUPPOSED to be the big launch of my YouTube channel. Please not the supposed to be. Apparently I am not as technologically literate as I thought I was....or as eloquent. If you ever wonder if you're socially awkward, record yourself making an introduction video. I'll tell you what I never realized how socially awkward OR how many freckles I had on my face until I recorded a YouTube video. The good news is I'm making a step in the right direction and am planning on adding a Twitch account for my playthroughs, soon after I get my first couple of videos up. There were some...difficulties with the program for my screen capture, so I'm just going to do a Twitch thing and go from there. There are many un-holiday spirit like words that were said this weekend and threats made in my computer's general direction. What does this all mean? The YouTube channel is in works. I'm going to try to have a video up by Christmas. If some

Five nerdy movies to watch before the holidays are over.

I know what you're thinking. "But Mariah, it's Wednesday. It's not the weekend. What's up with a new post?" I just love you guys and feel awful for being sick last weekend and writing a paper instead of a blog post. Curse thee paper.... In case you were wondering, I went to Denver for work and got to go to the aquarium...and work....That's pretty much it. I had a decent amount of fun and the aquarium was pretty cool. I spent most of my off time in my hotel room trying not to cough up a lung. Apparently, I was not as well adapted to the cold as I remember being. I loved the mountains though. It was awesome to see them and the air was clear and fresh and really cold. I tried Moroccan food which was delicious. Alright enough about me. Today we're talking about my favorite winter/Christmas/holiday movies to watch. First, Nightmare before Christmas. Now before you say anything. Nightmare Before Christmas is totally a Christmas movie. It's in t

December plans and geeky projects

Hello Interwebs!!! December has arrived and here it can't decide whether its going to be cold or 80 degrees. Some days it's 30 someodd degrees in the morning when I leave for work and then its in the high 60s by the time I leave....It's fine weather fairy, it's not like I need to adjust my uniform accordingly or plan an actual outfit for after work. O.o Anyways... December is an exciting month here at Nerdy Notes HQ and BUSY. Like super busy, like unbelievably uncontrollably busy. I have a business trip this week, which I didn't think I was and then on Thursday told me I was leaving on Monday. Don't worry. There will still be a blog on Friday. I shall preservere...that and I have a paper due the following Sunday sooo....kinda have to have my laptop on me because I don't get back until Saturday. Then the Winter Solstice is coming up, which my family is super excited about and then Christmas which the future in-laws and the fiance are super excited for. We

I'm Thankful for...

Hey everyone, Thanksgiving is now over and I suppose this means that I should take down my fall decorations, pack them away and head into the attic to get my scarce holiday decorations. DIYs shall abound and my house will be a winter wonderland...without the snow...because Georgia. Since it is still technically Thanksgiving week, I wanted to write down my top five things I'm thankful for. Warning...feels may abound and it's a long one, but that's what Thanksgiving is for right? 1. My family. I have a complex relationship with my family, but I love them all the same. Before I joined the military, we never spent a holiday apart and now I've missed the last five Thanksgivings with them, and this year will be my second Holiday season completely away from them. Despite this, my family always makes sure I know I'm loved and missed. They try to keep up with me, even when my hectic schedule doesn't give me time to call home and check in. It has probably been har

Doctor Strange Review

Hey everyone, I know that I said this week was going to be the Seven Deadly Sins review, but I just saw Doctor Strange and I figured it was a little bit more relevant. So...it's super rare that the fiance and I will go to a movie opening weekend. We really do not like crowds and by really don't like crowds, I mean we go out of our way to actively avoid crowds like they are carriers of the plague. However, we went to see Doctor Strange on Friday and it was awesome. First, Benedict Cumberbatch, as Doctor Steven Strange, does a great job of playing the character and the goatee looks good. Dr. Strange is a unique and complex character, who is almost unlikeable at the beginning of the movie. I'm not going to lie to you, but his character does develop and still manages to keep his sense of humor. Steven has good intentions, even if he isn't the best person and he has the right motivation most of the time. As a female, it makes me happy to see women in such promi

Life Updates

Hey guys, So...let's pretend I don't have a super heavy guilty conscience about disappearing and that I haven't been super busy and unable to do anything remotely geek related. Instead, let's catch up! I've missed you guys! Where to start? I've been super busy at work. I got a promotion and am doing an entirely different job that is either super busy and stressful OR not busy at all. The busy days are awesome, even if stressful, and the boring days make me feel less guilty about having to leave for the million appointments I have (more on that in a minute). It also makes me feel much less guilty about taking the time off work that I have been avoiding taking off, even though I desperately need it. I am now on my sixth consecutive day of a staycation, with three more days to go. That's right, ladies and gents, this girl is taking Halloween off. WOOT WOOT!! I've also been busy with school. I'm only taking one class at a time because that&

Suicide Squad Movie Review

Hey everyone! Sorry about my absence. I had an unexpected promotion at work and two classes. It's been really hectic. BUT the boyfriend decided we needed a date night and what better than the brand new Suicide Squad right after work today?! We just got back. I wore red and black, with my Harley Quinn shoes and socks. The boyfriend wore a Batman shirt. Let me start out by saying this. Make the decision about the movie for yourself. I was really nervous to go see it because I saw some seriously mixed reviews from critics. BAH! What do the critics know anyways? It was amazing and make sure you stay for the after credit scene! It's important. I'm going to do this with as few spoilers as possible and just talk about the characters and my impression of the story. Here we go. First, I loved the characters in this movie and even the ones I hated were expertly done. Margot Robbie, who I was very skeptical about when I first saw she had been cast, played an AMAZING Harley Qui

What Harry Potter taught me

I'll be honest. This wasn't what I wanted to talk about. I was going to talk about Pottermore and the quizzes and the houses and wand I was sorted into. I wasn't even going to write a post today. After all I have to leave for work in a few hours and I've only had 3 and half hours of sleep. I haven't worked out or done homework today. As I was attempting to rest, however, I scrolled through Facebook and saw things that made my blood boil, which isn't unusual for Facebook today. There were bad talking police officers, showing police brutality, the ongoing debate between the Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter, protests, counterprotests, bad talking candidates, and perhaps most ridiculous of all, bad talking other Pokemon Go teams! SERIOUSLY?! What the hell is wrong with people? (Excuse my language.) We live in a world that has more technology that could do good than ever before, but we are so caught up in ourselves that we aren't fighting for good anymor

5 Fandom Fridays - My Favorite Podcasts plus 2 I want to check out.

Image
Hey everyone! Sorry for being gone for a bit. Work/school/life got super hectic and annoying...-_- BUT now I'm back and I have the next few week's blog posts figured out already. I'm a step ahead already. MUAHAHAHA .... Sorry I've been up all night and have only slept for like four hours. Anyways this week's 5 Fandom Friday is about my top 5 favorite podcasts, which is awesome! However, I'm relatively new to the podcasting thing, so I have three favorite podcasts and two I want to check out. Here we go. So Witches BrewHaHa is a Pagan podcast that has podfaded unfortunately. Velma Nightshade, the hostess, is funny and it is extremely informative for beginners (a.k.a. me) and experienced alike. I'm almost caught up to when it stopped being produced and am kind of dreading approaching the end. Still really enjoyable. I really like this podcast. Its produced by How Stuff Works and is really interesting. What really makes this podcast is the dialog bet

Snarky Robots and Puzzle Solving Portals! What more could a girl ask for?

Image
Hey everyone, I apologize for the lateness of this post. I actually injured my back last week and it has been killing me. They finally gave me meds on Monday, so I am back! Today we are going to talk about Portal. I finally played and beat the first one last night. It was amazing and GlaDOS, while making me feel like a complete idiot half the time, was well...you'll see. PROS: 1. The whole idea of Portal was amazing. It is entirely a puzzle game and it gradually becomes more and more diffficult as you go through the levels. There were times where I sat there for a few minutes with baffled looks on my face. It was awesome. The level designs were amazing and none of them had the same solutions, which is amazing. 2. Companion Cubes. These cute little guys were invaluable solving tools. I now understand why everyone I know is obsessed with them. I mean look how friendly they look and GlaDOS assures us they will never stab us! Which leads me to my next point....

Five Fandom Friday ~ Guilty Pleasures

So I fully intended to have another post up before this. I swear I did...but the Boyfriend got his desk in and needed help putting it together, and then we worked on his homework (coding!), and then we cleaned the game room/office and I reclaimed my desk! I finished my nerdy bulletin boards and put up a shelf and began filling that shelf with various nerdy nick nacks and then I started making a list of frames I need to buy for various posters and then it was time for my homework, dinner, and donkey kong! I fully intended for there to be a post this week, but running a two geek household caught up to me. Follow my blog with Bloglovin This week's Five Fandom Friday is Guilty Pleasures. Five things that make you pause when telling people you're part of the Fandom. Oh boy...well here goes nothing. Here are my Five Fandom Guilty Pleasures. 1. Casual games Ahem...so I am a huge video
